THE BIG COMFY COUCH

Amity settles in the Comfy Couch

Toronto- November 10, 2005

Nashville's Amity Entertainment has given Toronto-based Radical Sheep Productions the greenlight to produce 22 new episodes of The Big Comfy Couch, the award-winning preschool TV series.

The new episodes, scheduled to premiere on American public TV in summer 2006, will feature several new elements designed to appeal to today’s preschoolers and their parents, including addressing concerns about the increase in obesity in young children in the US.

Other new touches include Granny’s Cabbage Club Cooking School, which will emulate traditional cooking shows while helping to foster healthy eating habits; and Major Bedhead’s Clown Chi Mojo Dojo and Dancing School, designed to get kids moving and up off their couches. Long-standing show elements such as The 10 Second Tidy and The Clock Rug Stretch will remain.

"With the 22 new episodes, there will be 100 total episodes of The Big Comfy Couch available as the series marks its 10th anniversary on public television," noted Stephen Elsky, president and COO of Amity Entertainment.

"As a result, we will be launching a major promotional campaign and coordinating with retailers and marketers in the months ahead about opportunities to serve the show’s viewers and their parents with quality supportive merchandise and entertainment."

"Like the children who watch it, The Big Comfy Couch is always growing and full of new ideas," added Cheryl Wagner, co-producer and creator of the series for Radical Sheep. "Our new episodes promise to deliver fun-filled entertainment that is also motivating and relevant to our very young viewers."

The Big Comfy Couch's exec producer is John Leitch and the programme is produced in Canada and distributed in the US by Amity in association with presenting station Nashville Public Television. The Big Comfy Couch is distributed to public TV stations by American Public Television.
